Kildare County Council Awarded ISO 50001 Certification for Energy Management
Kildare County Council is pleased to announce that it has been awarded ISO 50001 certification, following a comprehensive audit process. ISO 50001 is the world’s leading Energy Management Standard for energy use and consumption, providing a systematic approach to achieve continuous improvement in energy performance.
This achievement highlights Kildare County Council’s commitment to Climate Action. To achieve this certification an Energy Management Team was established with representation from across the organisation. A variety of projects and initiatives implemented to achieve energy efficiency in the past year include the Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project (PLEEP), a shared staff EV car for business travel, a 90kWp Photovoltaic Array at Áras Chill Dara and Photovoltaic Arrays on Fire Stations. The Council now operates a fleet of over 20 Electric Vehicles, replacing Diesel Vehicles as part of ongoing decarbonization efforts. Additionally, a trial of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is underway for several heavy goods vehicles. Looking ahead, an Energy Performance Contract will be established for buildings with significant energy use, and further upgrades and decarbonising projects are planned for other Kildare County Council buildings.
The ISO 50001 certification process has provided a clear pathway for future energy and decarbonisation projects, supporting Kildare County Council’s goal to meet and exceed the 2030 energy efficiency and carbon targets. Kildare County Council remains dedicated to ongoing improvement in energy performance across the organisation.
