Kildare County Council Opens Applications for DZ Climate Champions Awards 2026
Recognising and celebrating local climate action, biodiversity and sustainability initiatives across the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone
Kildare County Council has today announced that applications are now open for the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone (DZ) Climate Champions Awards 2026. The awards recognise and celebrate local climate action, biodiversity promotion, environmental protection and sustainability initiatives taking place across the Maynooth DZ community.
Who can apply?
- All applicants must be based in the Maynooth DZ area.
- Applications are welcomed across four categories: Farming, Business, Community Organisations and Schools.
- Individuals may apply where they are affiliated with a community organisation.
Winners will receive a certificate, which will be presented at Picnic in the Park in Harbour Field, Maynooth on Sunday, 21 June. In addition, a tree will be dedicated to each winner in recognition of their contribution.
Paul Regan, Decarbonising Officer, Kildare County Council, said: “The Climate Champions Awards are about celebrating the practical actions already happening across the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone—on farms, in businesses, in schools and through community organisations. If you’re making changes that protect the environment, support biodiversity, reduce emissions or strengthen sustainability, we encourage you to apply. The form is quick to complete and it’s a great opportunity to have your efforts recognised and to inspire others to take action too.”
Applications close on Sunday, 24 May 2026. The online application forms are available at: https://kildarecoco.ie/AllServices/ClimateAction/ClimateChampions/
