Protecting Our Watercourses – Slurry Spreading
Closed season for slurry spreading fast approaching
3rd September 2025: Kildare County Council would like to remind farmers that slurry spreading is prohibited from 1st October 2025 to 12th January 2026.
Ahead of the closed season, farmers are urged to spread slurry while weather and soil conditions are ideal.
Tanks should be emptied as soon as possible and slurry should be applied on suitable ground during appropriate weather.
Leaving just one foot of slurry in a tank, can reduce winter storage capacity by 2 to 3 weeks, so farmers should ensure all tanks are fully cleared and available for the closed season.
