Kildare County Council Launches Public Consultation for the Draft Biodiversity Action Plan 2026- 2031
Kildare County Council is pleased to announce the opening of the public consultation phase for the Draft County Kildare Biodiversity Action Plan 2026-2031. The consultation will remain open until Monday, 1 December 2025.
This ambitious plan aims to address biodiversity loss across Co Kildare and promote actions for a more sustainable and resilient natural environment.
As one of the first local authorities in Ireland to declare a biodiversity and climate emergency, in 2019, Kildare County Council remains committed to protecting its rich and unique biodiversity. The five-year plan sets out actions and objectives that align with, and build on, national efforts to halt the decline of our species and habitats.
The plan is underpinned by the objectives of Ireland’s 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan, which emphasizes local action to address global biodiversity loss. Key priorities include the restoration of habitats and ecosystems, protecting key species, and promoting nature-based solutions to mitigate climate impacts.
The Draft Plan has been prepared by the Kildare County Council Biodiversity Office, with guidance and support from the Kildare Biodiversity Working Group, and the Heritage Council.
Kildare County Council invites the public to help shape the next Biodiversity Action Plan by providing feedback through the consultation process. All feedback received will inform the final actions, aims and objectives of the plan.
The Draft Plan is available on the Online Consultation Portal at: https://consult.kildarecoco.ie/en/consultation/county-kildare-draft-biodiversity-action-plan-2026-2031
In addition the Biodiversity Officer will host public consultation events, to provide guidance at the following locations:
