Notice of Consideration of a Scheme for the Waiver of Rates
Section 15 of the Local Government Rates and Other Matters Act 2019 makes specific provision that elected members of a local authority may make a scheme providing for the waiver of rates, and that such a scheme shall be approved at a local authority meeting.
Kildare County Council will consider a scheme providing for the waiver of rates, applying in the 2026 local financial year, namely a commercial incentive waiver scheme that provides for a three year waiver of a percentage of commercial rates of eligible entrepreneurs/ businesses who occupy a property that has been vacant for a period of at least two years.
Kildare County Council welcomes written submissions from the public on this matter, specifically covering the potential effects of a scheme providing for the waiver of rates on businesses, individuals and on local authority services.
Submissions must be received by noon on Thursday, 31 July 2025 and be made by 1) completing an online survey at https://consult.kildarecoco.ie or 2) by post to the Administrative Officer, Commercial Rates Section, Finance Department, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co Kildare W91 X77F or 3) by email to rates@kildarecoco.ie.
