Athy Municipal District Honours Frank Taaffe with Certificate of Recognition
18th July 2025: The elected members of Athy Municipal District today presented Frank Taaffe with a Certificate of Recognition to acknowledge his exceptional public service and lifelong dedication to preservation and promotion of Athy’s rich heritage.
The presentation, which took place in the Shackleton Experience, Emily Square, Athy, follows Mr. Taaffe’s formal recognition at a Special Meeting of Athy Municipal District on 7 July 2025, which celebrated his enduring contributions to the community. Of key note is his outstanding work in commemorating the legacy of Ernest Shackleton and continued commitment to the Arts, with the establishment of Athy Community Arts Centre and his membership of Athy Lions club, serving the people of Athy, community groups and charities of the town since their establishment in 1971.
Frank Taaffe has demonstrated a deep commitment to public history. His weekly column in a local newspaper, published consistently for over 32 years, has served as a vital documentation of Athy’s culture and history.
The Certificate of Recognition stands as a formal tribute to Mr. Taaffe’s positive citizenship, and his unwavering dedication to the community he has served so faithfully.
