‘Just 1 Life’ Programme Concludes for 2025/2026
Closing Session Marks Successful Year, reaching over 2,500 Kildare students
Kildare County Council are proud to support the ‘Just 1 Life’ Road Safety Programme delivered in partnership with Naas/Newbridge Rotary Clubs, An Garda Síochána, A&E Consultants from Naas General Hospital and Kildare Fire Service. The final session of this year’s programme took place at the Odeon Cinema in Naas, marking the conclusion of another impactful year of delivery to secondary school students across County Kildare.
The ‘Just 1 Life’ Road Safety Programme, which raises awareness amongst young people of the real-life consequences of dangerous behaviour on the roads was delivered to over 2,500 students over 10 sessions during the 2025/2026 school year.
The final session provided an opportunity to reflect on the dedication and passion shown by all those involved in delivering this programme to the students.
Speaking at the event, The Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly, said: “I’d like to thank the organisers and presenters of Just 1 Life for their dedication. Their ongoing commitment has been central to the success of the programme, helping to ensure that road safety education remains relevant, consistent and impactful for students in Kildare.”
Niall O’Riordan, A/Chief Fire Officer, Kildare County Council remarked: “Kildare Fire Service is pleased to have been involved in the ‘Just 1 Life' programme for a number of years. The programme engages students at a crucial stage, as many are beginning their driving journeys for the first time. We are proud to contribute to raising awareness and helping to shape young people’s understanding of the very real risks involved on the road.”
George Shinners, Naas Rotary Club member, commented: “The ‘Just 1 Life’ Programme presents us with a platform to come together and speak to some of the most vulnerable members of our community about the importance of road safety and how, together, we can make real change and keep each other safe on our roads.”
Sergeant John Dunne, Kildare Community Policing Unit said: An Garda Síochána Kildare along with Kildare Fire & Ambulance Service and Naas General Hospital have been involved with the Naas/Newbridge Rotary Clubs ‘Just 1 Life' programme for a number of years and it has been a great way to get out the message of Road Safety to students throughout Co. Kildare. The programme’s overall message to reduce road deaths and serious injuries and the improvement of road safety generally, whether you’re a pedestrian, in a car driving or as a passenger, on a motorbike, bicycle or scooter, is always well received by the students. The programmes speakers are knowledgeable, experienced and relay real life experiences in the unique Odeon cinema setting. The programme is also updated regularly to coincide with law changes and trends, so it is current and up to date. An Garda Síochána Kildare will continue to support the ‘Just 1 Life’ Programme to help educate our current young road users and the next generation of drivers.
As the programme concludes for the current school year, planning is already underway for the next school year to ensure that the ‘Just 1 Life’ programme continues to reach the next generation of drivers across the county.
