Statement from Kildare County Council Tuesday 3rd February 2026 - Ongoing Risk of Flooding
Kildare County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team is continuing to manage the ongoing risk of flooding due to the heavy rainfall on the River Liffey and Poulaphouca Reservoir.
Working with the sub-group of the National Emergency Coordination Group, in collaboration with other agencies, Kildare County Council crews are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis, and ensuring resources are in place to manage any impact.
Overnight on Monday 2nd February, Kildare County Council crews deployed sandbags to a number of housing estates in Newbridge, as a precaution. However, no properties have been affected.
In addition, our crews have closed off access to the pedestrian bridge over Butterstream, where it enters the River Liffey, due to the high-water level.
River levels continue to be actively monitored by Kildare County Council crews.
Further heavy rainfall is expected over the coming days, and a flood advisory remains in place along rivers and coastal areas.
Our crews remain on alert and have stocks of sandbags available for installation in any affected areas, should they be required.
Kildare County Council is urging the public to be vigilant and adhere to all public safety advice.
Any individuals with concerns about flooding are advised to contact Kildare County Council.
