The NTA and Kildare County Council launches Bike Week 2026
Celebrating Cycling Across County Kildare
Kildare County Council, in collaboration with Kildare Sports Partnership, and supported by An Garda Síochána and the National Transport Authority, is proud to announce the launch of Bike Week 2026.
Running from Saturday, 9 May to Sunday, 17 May, Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling. Communities across Kildare are invited to enjoy a wide variety of free cycling activities, including community cycles, fun bike festivals, bike safety workshops, and inclusive family events.
Anne Shaw, CEO, National Transport Authority emphasised the importance of Bike Week saying: “The engagement with Bike Week from all the local authorities has again, far exceeded expectations. It’s fantastic to see so many events taking place all around the country. There really is something for everyone this year and I would encourage everybody to get involved.”
The Cathaoirleach of The County of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly, said: “Bike week is a wonderful celebration of community and collaboration, with events catering for all ages and cycling abilities taking place over the week. People will be able to experience first hand the benefits of cycling for their health, communities and their environment”
Syl Merrins, Kildare Sports Partnership Coordinator, remarked: “Bike Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate cycling in all its forms and to highlight the positive impact it has on our communities. At Kildare Sports Partnership, we are delighted to collaborate with our local partners on such a positive and inclusive initiative. Working together allows us to encourage more people of all ages and abilities to get active, enjoy being outdoors, and see cycling as a fun and accessible part of everyday life.”
Sergeant Brian O’Loughlin Roads Policing Unit, Naas Roads Policing Unit advises: “An Garda Síochána in Kildare are supporting Bike Safety Week, encouraging everyone to stay safe while using our roads and cycleways. Whether commuting, exercising, or out with family, please remember to wear a properly fitted helmet, use lights and high-visibility clothing, obey traffic signals and road rules, keep your bike well maintained and stay alert and be mindful of other road users. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone. If you’re out cycling this week, take a moment to put safety first.”
